Show your support

1000 MWU members who work for AFFCO Talleys have been trying to get a fair agreement for a year now.  Their old agreement expired a year ago and with new employment laws coming in on 6th March, your show of solidarity right now is just what they need to make another push.

    Kia ora koutou!

Not sure if I’m too late in typing this message, but on the off chance that it’s not too late then here goes…

Hold strong, comrades! It’s the workers in this country that keep everything ticking along – the people, like you, who go to work and get it done. We’ve created a cherished existence here in New Zealand, surrounded by a splendid landscape and enlivened by a unique history. We’re not perfect, but we have stood for values that are near to it: the recognition that each of us is fundamentally equal, that we are entitled to a life of dignity. The tactics undertaken by the Talley brothers are scurrilous, mean-spirited and are a strike against the values we stand for. By comparison, your to continued stand against these petty-minded Talley brothers embodies the strength and resolution required to demand the dignity you deserve. Thank you for the leadership you are showing!

A system that does not provide a fair go in the workplace – in wages and conditions, H&S and the dignity of decent work – has no place in New Zealand.

In this ‘so-called’ Rock-Star economy of ours where the PM can arrange to spend $$M on a referendum for a new flag, send troops overseas, build lots of roads, fund Golf matches and America’s cup I think we must be doing well. So in light of this a good catch-up pay rise is not a lot to expect for everyone in the country. I support your negotiations and suggest that if your employers state they can’t afford it tell them to pay less in dividends and see where you get?? Don’t give in. Best Regards – Sarah
